Thurrock’s annual education awards, which celebrate excellence in education, are now open for nominations.
What are the awards?
Every year, Thurrock Council host the Thurrock Education Awards. The awards are designed to celebrate best practice in the borough and excellence in our schools and to champion individuals who have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional education, support or leadership.

This year, nominations span 14 award categories. These are:
- Outstanding early years practitioner
- Outstanding new teacher
- Aspiring leader
- Innovative and creative teaching
- Education support
- Excellence in English
- Excellence in science, technologies, engineering and maths (STEM)
- Promoting career pathways and apprenticeships
- Governing board, trust or member
- Cross-school collaboration or community partnership
- Teacher of the year in primary education
- Teacher of the year in secondary education
- School leader of the year
- Outstanding contribution to education in Thurrock
How do the nominations work?
Teachers, headteachers, support staff, teams, governors and trusts are all eligible to be nominated for an award.
Everyone from parents, pupils and colleagues to providers and partners within the education community can nominate someone who has inspired them. More than 350 nominations were received last year!

How are the awards chosen?
On 11 October 2018, two Senior Officers from Thurrock Council will review the nominations and give each one a score. The four highest-scoring nominations in each category will be shortlisted to go forward for final judging.
On 25 October 2018, each shortlisted nomination will be discussed in depth and re-scored by a panel of judges. The highest scoring nomination in each category will be the winner.
How do the individuals receive their award?
The final winners will be presented with their awards at a celebratory presentation evening on Thursday 22 November at the Civic Hall in Blackshots Lane. Top of Form
All short-listed nominees will also be entered into a prize draw which will take place on the awards evening. The winner will receive a 15-day cruise for two people, from Tilbury to the Canary Islands and Madeira, departing on Sunday 11 August 2019, donated by Cruise & Maritime Voyages.
