Over thirty alumni from the Teach Thurrock Primary Partnership gathered at Dilkes Academy recently to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the partnership’s teacher training programme.
Teach Thurrock’s first cohort started training in September 2013 and the programme has now placed over forty Newly Qualified Teachers in Thurrock. The event celebrated Teach Thurrock’s success and growth since its formation in 2013.
Strategic lead for the Thurrock Primary Teaching School Alliance, Tony Parfett, attributes the success of the programme to the very strong partnership of headteachers who work tirelessly to provide high quality training for the students. He said: “Without the support and clear vision from our leaders we would not be as successful as we are today. We are proud that we have trained so many fantastic teachers who are now going into leadership roles. It was lovely to see so many of our ex-students returning to Dilkes to share their experiences with our current cohort and there was a real buzz in the room.”
Teach Thurrock is a one-year, primary school-based, Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme and is delivered by experienced teachers and lecturers. It is run through School Direct and in partnership with the Institute of Education. All trainees are allocated a ‘home’ school but are given the chance to work within several of the sixteen schools in the partnership. They are also supported by the Institute of Education and a dedicated and experienced mentor.
